Tool that simulates rat colour genetics in the NZ rat population. Play around with different genotypes and phenotypes, and explore the ways they combine!

May be expanded in future to encompass broader/international gene pools.

NOTE: Saving/loading works differently between web and Windows releases! On web browser you will be asked to copy and paste strings of text which represent rat genomes, while on Windows you will be able to save rats as files. This is due to the limitations of HTML5.

Very cool project! I am not from NZ, so it was interesting to get a glimpse into the more common colors and markings there compared to my locale. Does NZ have dumbo ears or rex fur textures? I did not see them in the game so now I am curious!

this was pretty interesting! i dont understand much about genetics, but with the help info and some messing around i managed to figure out how most of it worked and effected other genes! even though its simplified, this still taught me a bit which im pretty happy about :D also the art is adorable <3

As a rat lover, I'm charmed by the precious rat art. As someone who loved 7th grade bio when we learned about genetics, I'm excited to play around & remember those lessons while ALSO looking at rats! Thank  you!
